Pizza

Italy is the home of the pizza, and the pizzerias in Rome are renowned the world over.  The best pizzas are baked in a wood or coal fired brick oven. The pizza is baked directly on the hot bricks using a long paddle called a ‘peel’ to slide it in and out of the oven. Forget the deep pan style, Italian pizza is traditionally baked with a thin bread base.

A pizza has many different toppings, such as olives, pepperoni, mushrooms and peppers. Pizza has become an international food since the toppings can be extensively varied to meet local variations in taste.
