Ostia Lido

Rome’s nearest beach is Lido di Ostia, just a half hour train journey away from the city of Rome.  Due to its convenient location, this beach is always packed out, especially during the summer weekends when those who are not able to completely get away from the city flee to the nearby seaside.  As well as the locals, there are also a lot of tourists who come to soak up the seaside atmosphere and to relax on the beach.  However, this is not renowned for being one of the cleanest beaches in Italy, to say the least.

There are plenty good seafood restaurants, and of course a lot of ice-cream parlours selling that creamy and delicious ice-cream that Rome is renowned for. Like any seaside town, Ostia has a bubbling nightlife, of the decidedly commercial variety.  Bars, nightclubs and open air parties: if you stay after sunset you won’t be disappointed!

Ostia is very easy to get to, thanks to the Roma- Ostia-Lido “trenino” (little train)  To get there, take the Metro to the station “Piramide” (line B) , turn left, and you’re at the “trenino” station. It’s part of the metro system, so a normal metro ticket will get you there (€1 single)
