There are plenty car rental firms that operate in Rome.  However, timid drivers be warned – driving in Rome is a challenging experience, even for those who are accustomed to driving on the right side of the road, and finding a parking space can be a nightmare.

The minimum age for renting a car in Italy is 21,and you need to have a valid drivers licence and one year’s driving experience.  A lot of agencies are reluctant to rent cars to the under 23s, or else slap on huge surplus charges.  

 For the cheapest deals, it’s best to book in advance from home.  There are always plenty of good deals offered, and the best ones include full insurance and unlimited kilometres.  If you can get air conditioning that’s a much appreciated bonus for a summer in Rome!
