Coffee shop

Rome, the home of fine coffee.  It comes as no surpise then that the coffee culture is firmly woven into the cutlural fabric of this city.  Many people start the day in one of Rome's many cafes, with an espresso or cappuccino and "un cornetto", a delicious flaky croissant that comes either plain or with custard or jam.  Espressos are very concentrated and small, and that's the way it should be.  If you want a big cup of hot watery liquid, ask for "un Americano".

Having a coffee is not just about chasing that caffeine buzz, but is probably one of the most popular ways to socialise. From quickly catching up with an old friend during the day, or meeting up with new people in the evening, cafes are often the venue of choice.  Note to those who don't like coffee (yes, they exist!), if someonew asks you for a coffee just say yes and order what you want at the bar!

Cafe's line the streets and piazzas and are scattered throughout Rome. Most have tables outside and table service, which usually incurrs a slight supplement to standing up or perching on stools at the bar. Obviously cafes with a view on important monuments will be more expensive, but it's often worth paying those extra euros to soak in the sunshine and cultural wonders, but make sure you keep an eye on your bag! Some of the best cafes can be foundaround Campo dei Fiori and the Pantheon, and in the little winding sidestreets that snake off either side of Via del Corso
