It goes without saying that the most popular sport in Italy is football. Most boys are football crazy, and only some of them grow out of it.  The main stadium is the Stadio Olimpico, where both home teams Roma and Lazio play. 

Rome has its fair share of sport centres (centri sportive) and gyms (palestre).  For a monthly membership fee one can use all the available facilities, which usually include a swimming pool, fitness centre with weights and exercise machines, squash and tennis courts.  If you are interested in joining a sports centre it’s worth checking out exactly what facilities they offer and what classes are available.  Some of the best are the Centri Dabliú franchises, with centres all around the city.

There are a lot of golf courses around Rome, although many are members only clubs.  The countryside around Rome ,in the region of Lazio, is very beautiful.  Hiking and cycling are popular, starting from the small villages away from the city.
