Nightlife in Rome starts early and ends late because people in Italy tend to live outdoors and much as possible, and it is not unusual to finish dinner in a restaurant then move on for coffee or “digestive” (digestive liquor) in a bar.

Bars, wine-bars, cafés, and Irish pubs can be found all over the city, with a particularly high concentration in and around Campo dei Fiori, Piazza Navona and Testaccio. Gilda’s nightclub and the area around the Spanish Steps is a good place to spot famous the rich and famous. This isn’t where the big drinkers hang out as people here are interested in seeing and being seen.
Romans have a tendency to dress slightly more casually than their counterparts in Milan and Florence. However, most men and women do make an effort to look their best for a night out. Don’t forget that drinks and coffees are cheaper when you stand at the bar. A table indoors costs a little more, and a table outdoors on the terrace will be slightly more expensive than that. It’s worth checking before you sit down; some bars almost double their terrace prices to snare the tourists in the summer.

Estate Romana is the name given to thesummer-long season of outdoor events over the whole city of Rome. A lot of events take place in various vaenues around the city. For example, the Villa Celimontana is famous for its annual Jazz and Image festival. You can also catch live jazz and blues in piazzas and churches.
